The HAEMATOXYLIUM CAMPECHIANUM is a tropical tree of the family Leguminosae, whose wood is obtained from hematoxylin, which is a type of histochemical staining. The generic name of this plant is "blood timber", but the dye produces the color blue and not red.
The hematoxylin is one of the oldest and most organic dyes used in histochemistry.
