The Podophyllum peltatum, also known as "umbrella plant" or "wild lemon," is widely used by dermatologists because it contains "podophyllin," meaning alchol crude extracted from the rhizomes of the plant, which is the basis for the preparation of many medicines. The Podophyllum peltatum has been used for centuries by tribes native to North America, both for its therapeutic properties, which the poison contained in it.
Its fruit was used to cure deafness, its resin to cure snake bites and the plant as a whole as a purgative or laxative.
If ingested could also cause death and was used by some tribes as a means of suicide.
Currently this plant is used mainly to treat warts and its resin pe rtrattare the warts.
